We supplied a team of up to 15 mechanical fitters to assemble the European manufactured plant. Project supervisor Brad Baker and the team had to overcome numerous challenges along the way associated with the ‘first of its kind’ equipment. The 8m diameter ring was fabricated from rolled 300PFC channel and had to be within 2mm tolerance overall to ensure the tunnel boring machine ‘Dame Whina Cooper’ could safely break through out of the rock and into the station. The works involve repairing damaged sections, installing a new deck, designing and fabricating a compliant handrail system, protective coatings and installation.
